For our clients who have landed on residential shingles as the best option for their budget and goals, we are proud to offer high-quality products from both GAF and Owens Corning. Shingles make a lot of sense for homeowners who are looking for cost-effective roofing that will last an estimated 15 to 25 years. Perhaps you and your family plan to sell your home for something more spacious in a few years, or you know you will downsize in the not too distant future. You may be surprised at the number of styles and colors from which to choose! In today’s post, we’re spotlighting GAF and some of their most popular residential roofing shingles (we’ll share more about Owens Corning in our next post).

About GAF
First, a little background about GAF and the quality their products provide. Founded in 1886, GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. They also offer America’s #1 selling shingle (Timberline® HDZ™) and are constantly making improvements to their product features. Timberline® dates back to 1967, laminating “two strip shingles together to create a shingle of extraordinary strength and aesthetics.” Two of their latest Timberline® HDZ™ developments are rolling out “the industry’s largest nailing area” and “the first wind warranty with no maximum wind speed limitation” (installation must include the required combination of GAF Accessories). Keep reading for a sampling of their most popular roofing shingles.

Timberline® HDZ™Roofing Shingles

Touted as “North America’s #1-selling shingle,” you can rely on these high-performance shingles with a “genuine wood-shake look” thanks to their proprietary color blends. These shingles are durable and thick (“up to 53 percent thicker than standard architectural shingles”). They are budget-friendly with the highest roofing fire rating available. Their website lists these shingles as “warranted to withstand winds up to 130 mph” thanks in part to their Dura Grip™ adhesive. Add finishing touches (ridge cap shingles) and StainGuard® protection to enhance the beauty of this product.

If you love the look of slate roofs but are hoping for a more budget-friendly solution, GAF’s Slateline™ Shingles are a strong contender, complete with the Good Housekeeping Seal. These shingles also have the highest roofing fire rating available, include Dura Grip™ adhesive and can withstand winds up to 130 mph. Ridge cap shingles and StainGuard® are available with this line as well.

Also in their designer line with a slate look and the Good Housekeeping Seal, Owens Corning’s Camelot® II Shingles create a “classic, artisan-crafted” appearance at a price tag that is “just pennies-a-day more than standard architectural shingles.” Color industry expert Patricia Verlodt designed their color palette with richness and beauty in mind. As expected, they come with the highest roofing fire rating available, Dura Grip™ adhesive, StainGuard® protection and can withstand winds up to 130 mph.

Owens Corning describes their Royal Sovereign® Shingles as “the most beautiful strip shingle on the market.” These cost-effective shingles come with the highest roofing fire rating available and StainGuard® protection. This product combats cracking and splitting with their Micro Weave™ Core and does exceptionally well in the ASTM’s wind tests, passing the 110 mph and 150 mph testing. They also resist fading with the Color Lock™ Ceramic Firing that is a part of the manufacturing process.
